About the Role

Action Staffing Ltd is actively recruiting reliable, passionate, and qualified Temporary Nursery Practitioners (Level 2 or Level 3) and Early Years Assistants for flexible day-to-day agency bookings across Ofsted-registered day nurseries and pre-schools throughout East London (covering Stratford, Hackney, Bow, Walthamstow, Newham, Tower Hamlets, and Barking).

Pay & Shift Details

• Hourly Pay Rate: £14.00 – £16.50 per hour (dependent on qualification level, role setting, and experience; weekly pay with accrued holiday pay)
• Shift Patterns:
  • Full Days (08:00 – 18:00 / 07:30 – 18:30)
  • Morning Shifts (08:00 – 13:00)
  • Afternoon Shifts (13:00 – 18:00)
  • Same-day emergency morning calls available with premium rates
• Contract Type: Temporary / Locum / Flexible Bank Staff
• Start Date: Immediate starts available following full compliance clearance

Key Responsibilities

• Delivering attentive, nurturing care and supervision to babies, toddlers, and pre-school children (ages 3 months to 5 years).
• Facilitating stimulating play, indoor creative tasks, and outdoor learning in alignment with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
• Supporting nursery room teams in maintaining mandatory staff-to-child ratios at all times.
• Assisting permanent educators with daily routines, mealtimes, rest periods, and personal hygiene/nappy-changing schedules.
• Upholding stringent safeguarding protocols, identifying risks, and reporting any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
• Greeting parents and guardians professionally during daily arrival and collection handovers.
• Blending seamlessly into varied early years environments across community nurseries, private day settings, and Montessori schools.

Candidate Requirements

• Qualifications: CACHE, NVQ, or BTEC Level 2 or Level 3 in Early Years / Childcare (or minimum 6 months of paid UK nursery experience for unqualified Nursery Assistant roles).
• Compliance Checks:
  • Enhanced DBS check registered on the DBS Update Service (Child Workforce), or willingness to apply for one via Action Staffing Ltd.
  • Verified Right to Work in the UK (temporary agency roles do not qualify for visa sponsorship).
  • 2 satisfactory professional references (at least one from a recent childcare or educational setting).
  • A verifiable 5-year employment and education history with any gaps explained.
• Attributes: Punctual, proactive, adaptable, and a confident English communicator.
• Desirable: Valid 12-hour Paediatric First Aid certificate, Food Hygiene Level 2, and Safeguarding training.
