About the Role
Action Staffing Ltd is actively recruiting experienced, compassionate Healthcare Assistants (HCA) and Support Workers to cover flexible temporary, bank, and ad-hoc agency shifts across residential care homes, dementia units, nursing homes, and supported living facilities throughout Devon and Cornwall (including Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay, Newton Abbot, Truro, and St Austell).
Whether you want full-time weekly agency hours or supplementary bank shifts around your existing commitments, we offer total rota flexibility with day shifts, waking nights, and weekend packages available immediately.
Pay & Shift Details
- Hourly Pay Rate: £13.50 – £16.50 per hour (dependent on shift type, weekday/night/weekend, and client setting; holiday pay accrued)
- Shift Patterns:
- Long Days (08:00 – 20:00 / 07:00 – 19:00)
- Waking Nights (20:00 – 08:00 / 19:00 – 07:00)
- Early & Late Shifts available
- Employment Type: Temporary / Locum / Bank Shifts
- Start Date: Immediate starts available following compliance clearance
Key Responsibilities
- Providing person-centred physical and emotional care to vulnerable adults, elderly residents, and individuals with complex needs or dementia.
- Assisting residents with daily personal care routines (washing, dressing, bathing, toileting, and continence care) while preserving dignity and independence.
- Utilizing safe moving and handling techniques with equipment such as hoists, stand-aids, slide sheets, and wheelchairs.
- Assisting with dietary requirements, mealtime support, and monitoring fluid/nutrition charts.
- Collaborating with Registered Nurses, Senior Carers, and care home management to implement individualized care plans.
- Accurately recording daily handover notes, incident logs, and MAR chart documentation where required.
- Maintaining infection control standards, health and safety protocols, and safeguarding procedures at all times.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 6 months of paid healthcare assistant or support work experience within a UK care home, nursing setting, or hospital within the last 2 years.
- Compliance Checks:
- An Enhanced DBS check registered on the DBS Update Service (or willingness to process a new check).
- Right to Work in the UK (we cannot offer visa sponsorship for temporary agency shifts).
- 2 satisfactory professional references covering health and social care employment.
- Training: Valid mandatory training certificates (Moving & Handling, Safeguarding Adults, Basic Life Support, Infection Prevention & Control, Fire Safety) or willingness to complete refreshers.
- Attributes: Reliable, punctual, empathetic, and adaptable to different care environments.
- Mobility: Driving licence and access to own vehicle is advantageous across Devon and Cornwall, though accessible public transport routes are available in major towns.
